Our 2006 lecture series continues with Dr. Richard Jackson, Medical Director of the Joslin Diabetes Center's DOIT (Diabetes Outpatient Intensive Treatment) Program, speaking on "Outliving Your Diabetes: New Medical and Behavioral Secrets to Living a Long and Healthy Life". Wednesday, September 27, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., Scripps Mercy Hospital Auditorium, San Diego. Dr. Jackson is a well-known endocrinologist and Harvard Medical School Professor. Dr. Alan Glaseroff, a nationally renowned physician who specializes in diabetes care and is also living with diabetes, teams with Dr. William Polonsky, our own diabetes psychologist and BDI's founder, in a public presentation examining the emotional aspects of living with diabetes. - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21 – One-Day Workshop "GETTING ON TRACK",

This small group program is for anyone who wishes to explore issues involving "diabetes burnout" and the stresses of living with diabetes. You will learn about the emotional pitfalls assocated with diabetes, determine your own pattern of diabetes stressors, and develop your own personalized strategies for mastering the challenges of diabetes. This one-day workshop will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Whittier Institute at Scripps Memorial Hospital Campus, 9888 Genessee Ave, La Jolla 92037, 3rd Floor Library. - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 – Defeating the Depression/Diabetes Connection 7-Week Series

- Defeating the Depression/Diabetes Connection – Depression is more common in people with diabetes, can be tougher to treat, and makes diabetes harder to manage. In this program, you will develop a personalized action plan for overcoming this negative cycle.
Step 1 is an evening workshop beginning Tuesday, September 5, to be held at the Whittier Institute second floor conference room, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Step 2 is a a six-week group program held on consecutive Tuesdays beginning September 12 at the Whittier Institute, 6:30 p.m.
