DiaBuddies mentor program

DiaBuddies Mentor Program

DiaBuddies Mentor Program:
DiaBuddies is a mentor program for children and adults of all ages with type I and II diabetes. The program stemmed from collaboration between Behavioral Diabetes Institute staff and volunteers and a UCSD student service organization. This program matches up clients with a DiaBuddy that can best relate to their needs, based on age, gender, type of diabetes and other considerations.

DiaBuddies provides personal support to help adjust to a new diagnosis, address ongoing issues with diabetes, and/or offer understanding and motivation towards a more successful life with diabetes. All mentors are certified through a training workshop led by DiaBuddies/BDI staff. Supervision meetings are held with the DiaBuddies and BDI clinical psychologists to ensure that the mentorship is successful and progressive.
Please Note: All "Train The Mentors" workshops and supervision meetings are currently held only in San Diego, California.

DiaBuddies Events for Teens with Type I:
In addition to the mentor program, DiaBuddies hosts quarterly Teen Events for the younger crowd with type I (also sponsored by JDRF). These events provide an opportunity to meet others with a similar lifestyle, get active, make new friends, have fun, and build a support network. Our recent events were Laser Tag Night and a Beach BBQ attracting many enthusiastic teens.
